A new OB-GYN clinic on Hawaiʻi Island opened its doors on September 1. Dr. John Uohara, who held a private practice in Hilo for 39 years and retired on August 31, “handed off” his practice to Dr. Emilie Stickley.

She is the second UHP/JABSOM OB-GYN provider to be located in Hilo, the first being Dr. Kareem Khozaim, who practices at Hilo Bay Clinic.

Dr. Stickley joins the UHP faculty practice after serving in the United States Army as a field surgeon from 2009 to 2013. Previously, she received her M.D. from Northeast Ohio Medical University – located in a small town in rural Ohio — and completed her OB/GYN residency at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu. After her years of service, she returned to Hawaii to work as an OB-GYN physician at Pali Momi Women’s Health Center (now the Pali Momi Outpatient Center) and became an Assistant Professor at JABSOM.

When offered the opportunity to work in Hilo, she accepted the position to work again in a rural setting. She, along with her family of five, relocated to Hawaiʻi Island.

“There are so many in this community who are committed and give back in a variety of ways,” said Dr. Stickley. “I am so excited to be a part of it and to be able to step into a role that will allow me to give so much as well.”

The new clinic is located in the Hilo Community Surgery Center, near Hilo Intermediate School. Dr. Stickley is now taking new patients for those living in Hilo or surrounding areas. To make an appointment with Dr. Stickley, please call 808-961-6608.
