Chair of the John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM)\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/jabsom.hawaii.edu\/departments\/obgyn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Women\u2019s Health<\/a>, has been formally accepted into the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.agosonline.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">American Gynecologic and Obstetrical Society\u00a0<\/a>(AGOS) on December 21, 2016. The scale of that achievement is impressive. Dr. Zalud becomes the first and only AGOS fellow to be elected from Hawai\u2019i.<\/center><blockquote><p>\u201c(It is an) extraordinary peer\u00a0recognition. I see\u00a0this also as recognition of\u00a0exemplary academic work done in our\u00a0department and\u00a0medical school,\u201d said Dr. Zalud.<\/p><\/blockquote><p>The election process begins when two current fellows recommend a prospective fellow to the society. The prospective fellow is invited as a guest to the society annual meeting. The prospective fellow is then invited to submit a written application. The application is first reviewed by elected peers then reviewed and approved by the fellowship committee. The application is then reviewed and approved by the executive committee, then finally approved by all of the AGOS fellows.<\/p><p>The application has to be approved by a minimum of 90% of the current fellows. The application can be denied at any level.<\/p><p>Dr. Zalud will make his official introduction at the 2017 Annual Meeting scheduled for September 14, 2017, where he will received a certificate and medallion.<\/p><p><strong>About the JABSOM Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology (OB-GYN) and Women\u2019s Health\u00a0<\/strong><\/p><ol><li style=\"list-style-type: none;\"><ol>Physicians with JABSOM OB-GYN Department provide coverage for multiple hospitals in Hawaii including Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children, The Queen\u2019s Medical Center and Pali Momi Medical Center.<\/ol><\/li><\/ol><p>JABSOM OB-GYN physicians provide high quality care to women facing heath problems though their life span, including complications and high-risk pregnancies. This dedicated group also provides essential services to many under-insured patients in Hawaii.<\/p><p>In addition to directly serving Hawaii\u2019s families, the UH Department of Obstetrics-Gynecology &amp; Women\u2019s Health creates its clinical learning environment for medical students, residents &amp; fellows through its\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/uhphawaii.org\/\">University Health Partners of Hawaii<\/a>\u00a0(UHP) practice, giving all learners the robust real-world experience they need. The department has 37 physicians, including four who are part-time and three professors emeritus. Another 107 OB-GYN physicians in Hawaii are volunteer faculty. Specialty training is offered in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Family Planning and Maternal Fetal Medicine.<\/p><p><strong>About AGOS<\/strong><br \/>The American Gynecological and Obstetrical Society advances the health of women by providing dedicated leadership and promoting excellence in research, education and medical practice.
